The normal process for admission to the MERM Master’s or PhD programs is through the standard ECPS admissions procedures for new applications. This is also the case for students proceeding from a MERM MA to a MERM PhD. Typically, application to the PhD program is made in the final year of the student’s MA program. The application can be made before completion of the MA thesis, but formal acceptance to the doctoral program will be conditional upon completion of the thesis.
Although rare, students may request to transfer from one program to another. In cases involving a change of discipline (e.g., non-MERM to MERM), the transfer request is treated as a new application and may only be considered during the annual review of admissions to the MERM as stated in departmental graduate policy. In other cases, in which there is no change of discipline, the transfer request is not treated as a new application and may be submitted for consideration throughout the academic year.
