Who should consider the Guidance Diploma program?
If you are interested in a career in guidance counselling, either in a school or other setting, this may be a good program for you. If you plan to work in a school setting you must hold teacher certification.

Can I apply for the MA or MEd programs in Counselling Psychology before completing the Guidance Diploma?
Yes. Courses taken as part of the Guidance Diploma program can count as pre-requisites for the MA or MEd Counselling Psychology programs.
What does the term “unclassified” student mean?
An unclassified student is one who holds a recognized degree and who wishes to register for courses not intended to lead to a particular degree or diploma. Admission as an unclassified student does not imply future admission to any program. Credit earned as an unclassified student may not necessarily be applicable towards a degree.
What is meant by the teacher certification?
A student must have completed a recognized teacher education program.
When I have finished all my coursework, how do I make sure I am on the next graduation list?
Graduation is NOT automatic. Contact Student Services [http://students.ubc.ca/current/graduation.cfm] to indicate you have completed the requirements for the Diploma. You may apply any time within the 12-month period in which you will have completed all of the requirements. Applications for May are no later than February 1 and no later than August 15 for November. |
