The
Faculty of Graduate Studies requires that students
admitted to Master's programs complete all program
requirements within five years.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is highly recommended that students complete their clinic (CNPS 588) in the second year of the program. However, students who need to complete the program in the shortest period must be prepared to enroll in courses throughout the entire period, and begin the program in July rather than September. Students must complete CNPS 578B (Lab) and CNPS 578A within the first year of the program to prepare for CNPS 588 clinic in the fall term of their second year. It is also required that students complete the group course (CNPS 564) before, or concurrent with, clinic.
*
PART-TIME: Part-time study
during the day and evening over a period up to five
years starting either in July or September. (A part-time
student pays the schedule B fee structure of the Master's
degree program).
Course
Sequences
There is flexibility regarding the order in which
courses may be completed. However, for the following
courses, a certain order of completion is required.
Complete
CNPS 363 before CNPS 574
Complete CNPS 365 before CNPS 578A
Complete EDUC 500 before CNPS 579 (M.A. students only)
Complete
EPSE 528 (3) in Intersession, or Term 1 (Fall) before
CNPS 532(3) Term 2 (Winter) (MA Students Only)
Complete
CNPS 532 (6) in the Summer Session (M.Ed. Students
Only).
The
core developmental course for your area of study is
usually completed in the first year (eg., CNPS 504, CNPS 514,
CNPS 524)
The
practicum sequence is as follows:
CNPS 362 -> CNPS 578B -> CNPS 588 -> CNPS
598
It is required that students complete CNPS 578B and CNPS 564 before enrolling in CNPS 588. It is strongly recommended that CNPS 578A also be completed prior to CNPS 588. If this is not possible, CNPS 578A must be completed the first term, concurrently with CNPS 588. It is also recommended that students complete CNPS 586 either before or concurrently with clinic, CNPS 588.
NOTE:
CNPS 598 involves an intensive supervised 600 hour
practicum (which includes 200 hours of direct client
contact) in a community agency, school, college or
universities setting (2-3 days/week during fall/winter
or 5 days/week during the spring and summer). To register
for practicum students must have completed CNPS 578A
& B; CNPS 588; CNPS 532; CNPS 564; and the developmental
course specific to their area of focus (eg. CNPS 514;
524; 504).
