Required Courses in PhD Program

CNPS 508: (3 credits) Perpsectives on Adult Psychopathology in Counselling Psychology.
This course is an in depth analysis of current theories and research designed to understand abnormal behavior.

CNPS 586: (3 credits) Ethics in Counselling Psychology.
Ethical decision making and legal issues in counselling psychology research and practice.

CNPS 587 (1-2 credits) History and Systems of Psychology.
This course addresses the devleopment of psychological inquiry from its philosophical roots to its current emphases.

CNPS 588: (6 credits) Supervised Training in Counselling.
Initial counselling experience under faculty supervision in Department training centres.

CNPS 632: (3 credits) Advanced Assessment in Counselling Psychology.
Counselling psychology research and practice in adult personality assessment, including ethics of testing and use with special populations. Prerequisite: PSYC 303 or EPSE 528, or CNPS 532.

CNPS 669: (3 credits) Research Approaches in Counselling Psychology.
This course examines the assumptions and methods of major research paradigms, critically assesses a selection of current research, and then uses various approaches to construct research projects.

CNPS 677 (3 credits) Theories of Vocational Development.
Sociological and psychological aspects of career planning, theories of vocational development, vocational choice.

CNPS 678: (3-6 credits) Theoretical Perspectives in Counselling Psychology.
Major theoretical traditions in Counselling Psychology and illustration of the links among theory, research and practices; perspectives on Counselling Psychology as a distinct field of specialization.

CNPS 688: (6 credits) Supervision of Counselling Practice.
Supervision requires both knowledge of supervision models and practices, and skills to implement them. This course involves a seminar and practicum to integrate the two requirements of the subject. For those on the Doctoral program.

EPSE 568:
(3 credits) Applied Developmental Neuropsychology

CNPS/EPSE 565: (3 credits) Social Psychology Foundations in Professional Psychology

CNPS 698:
(6 credits) Pre-Doctoral Internship.
A 1600 hour supervised internship in Counselling Psychology. Internship sites offer counselling services as detailed in the "Specialty Guidelines for the Delivery of Services by Counselling Psychologists" (APA).

CNPS 699: (0 credits) Doctoral Thesis.
