Awards and Financial Aid
Several kinds of formal awards are available and are described
below. All are highly competitive:
SSHRC Fellowships:
The SSHRCC Fellowship competition is open to doctoral students
or masters students planning to begin a doctoral program the
following September can also apply at the beginning of October
and application is initiated by the student. Doctoral students
must apply for a SSHRCC Fellowship in order to be considered
for a University Graduate Fellowship the following spring.
Graduate Teaching Assistantships:
A variety of assistantships are available. These usually involve
teaching, under the supervision of a faculty member, a 3 credit
course which is part of the Diploma in Guidance Studies or
the Teacher Education Program. Information about these assistantships
is available through the Department Head or Associate Head.
Graduate Research Assistantships:
Research Assistantships: It is possible to obtain funding
by working on an individual professor's research project.
Indication of interest in participating in these projects
can be made directly to Department Faculty members or through
the Department Head.
Canada Student Loans and Bursaries:

The application deadline for student loans is at the end of
June. You must have a student loan to apply for a bursary.
